Archimedes' Principle

Along time ago in Syracuse, Ancient Greece, there was a great mathematician named Archimedes. One day when he was taking a bath he discovered something life changing. When he got in, Some water displaced and it overflowed over the bath tub.

Archimedes’ discovery got him thinking. He was so excited that he ran threw the streets without any clothes on shouting EUREKA! EUREKA! This meant I have found it in Greek.

He figured out that if you put something in water and it is lighter than the amount of water being displaced, the object will float. This is known as buoyancy or the Archimedes Principle. So if an object can float, it is buoyant. By Yvonne.

2. File > Publish to the web > Change size to 'small 480x299' > Tick the first check box 'Start slideshow as soon as the player loads'> Copy your embed code and paste in HTML on a new blog post. 

3. Now it is time to change the embed code or HTML code. Find the words 'delayms=3000'. Then change the number 3000 into a number between 200-800. I chose 400 :)

Fiafia Fiafia Whooo! by Christian

What is Fiafia? Fiafia,  hmmmm that is a tricky question. Well,  I  will  tell  you all.

If you translate fiafia in to Samoan  or Tongan it will mean happy. In New Zealand it means to have a celebration of cultures and also happiness too.

Did you know that I think relating to others is the one key competencies that you need at fiafia? This is so the kids in my Samoan group can listen to me, so I can do my job as a captain.

The Five Skills (Key Competencies)

The key competencies. What does it mean to you? The key competencies are the sensible skills that we use to keep our brains going and learning other things.

Managing self is what I’m really successful at. For example in our class the students could be chatting and one person is sitting up and ready to learn for the day.Thinking is one of the other things that I’m really good at because when the teacher asks us a question we think about that question and use our brain to find data and give the ideas.

I am really good at lots of things, but I still need to improve some of my learning as well as  participating and contributing. I’m good at doing that but I need a bit more practice. What I need to practice is speaking clearly because I am sometimes shy when I’m in front of an audience or crowd.

These five skills thinking, managing self, participating and contributing,relating to others and using language symbols and texts has to be included in schools. So make sure you start doing it even though other people are being silly around you.

Why Should We Learn To Swim? By Seini

Why Should We Learn To Swim

You need to learn to swim and keep safe in the water at all times.You might even learn a new swimming skill or make up your own skill. Enjoy your time learning to swim.

Survival

You need to know how to keep safe in water so that you will stay alive. For example If you were at the beach and you were at a really deep spot  and you couldn’t swim you can already start drowning. Thats why its important to swim.

Fun

If I was going to a birthday party and we were going to the swimming pools and I didn’t know how to swim. I would be staying In shallow pool with the some toddlers and all the other kids in my age would be having fun and I would be in the corner with my eyes shedding tears.

Conclusion

Swimming is sometimes complicated, tricky for some people to learn, but is really important. It’s fun, keeps you alive and also healthy. Would you want to learn to swim? I hope you do start learning or even teach others to swim.

Why You Should Learn to Swim by Rima

Do you like swimming? Lot and lots of people love swimming. But do you know that some people can’t even swim. The reason you have to practice swimming is because if you drown you could die.

Survival

For an example, if you went kayaking and you couldn't control yourself and you were somewhere deep, you could fall and drown that's why you must practice swimming. If you don’t you will swallow the water, and when you jump up you will be coughing.

When you go back in the water you will have no breath left and it

will be really sad if you died and you could get cut and there will be blood coming out. But if you wear a live vest you will still be alive.

So please wear life vest and learn to swim. If you don’t, you know what will happen. Remember to practice swimming  and wearing  life vest. It could save you life!

Year 5 and 6 Camp by Angelo

Did you see me throwing water balloons last week? I was at year five and six camp on the field. I was playing top town.

During top town on the bottom field, we had to use cooperation  to try and get to the war zone, without touching the screaming eels. My group the All stars only had three boards to get to the war zone. When we got to the war zone we had to throw water balloons at the other group's castle.

Get lost was another thing that I liked  at  camp. It was like we were playing the Amazing race. My favourite thing in get lost was the face painting and dress ups. We had to use ipads  to prove that we did what the clue told us to do. The hardest thing was building a box, there were so many pieces to put together.

Camp was awesome, but  I was filled with tears on the day when we were packing and cleaning our tents. The best thing liked was when we went to the pools. Next time I'm looking  forward to not one but two camps next year, it will be phenomenal!

Year Five and Six Camp Recount by Talita

Hey there did you hear about the Camp at Pt England school? Well if you have or if you haven't I’m going to tell you about it and what we did. We had the Camp in three days with alot of fun. In those three days where Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. If you were wondering who the Camp was for well it was for the Year five and Six at Pt England school. Thats why its called Year Five and Six Camp. The Camp was held at Pt England school and thats where we slept at the school. It was awesome. We had groups and I was in the Care Bears. Its called that because we care but like the little bears.

On Thursday afternoon just before lunch my group and teacher leader went down to Pt England Beach to kayak. When Care Bears got there we saw the kayak crew and when we came closer to the beach we saw Mr Burt and helpers eating lunch. Then Mr Burt stood up and talked to us little while then the Care Bears went down to the water and started to put some safety life vests on to keep us safe in the water. When we went in to our kayaks we had to put in foot bottom foot.

The day before that my group went cooking. The boys cooked fish,fritters and thing like that. While they do that the girls baked cookies and cheese scones. Who were you cooking with I hear you say? Well we cooked with Mrs Jarman. She was really cool to cooked with. First the of all we picked our partners or our partners picked us. My partner was Seini and she picked me. She was all right to work with. Next thing we did was we went through instructions then started making the cookies. When we were finish one tray of tasty cookies some of the teachers came in. They asked what we cooking and we told them chocolate chip cookies. After that we were so hungry we had a cookie each and they were divine and real tasty.

            

Next year will probably not be that exciting then this year. But it might. So thats the end of 2014 Year Five and Six Camp. Can’t wait till to next year. Come back next year for 2015 Year Five and Six Camp!

Camp is Coming

Want to sleep at Pt England School? Well the days have come. This

week on Wednesday, Thursday

and Friday too. Year 5 and 6 are

camping at Pt England school  to learn about nature.

I am looking forward to camp cooking because I never ever cooked before

in  my life!!!!! I like cooking, but

I don’t do it. Cooking is not my idea of having fun. I am nervous of cooking.

Camp Is Coming! by Alisha

Would  you  like  know  what  camp  is  like ?  Well  you're in   for  a   surprise!  I am  going  to  this   week!  This Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the year  Five  and  Six  students  will  be  camping  at  Pt  England  School. We  are  camping to  get to  know  each  other and  to  have  fun!

I am  looking forward  to going to  Mangere pools  with  Mrs Jarman on Friday, and  camp cooking, that  I  just  cannot  wait until  Wednesday!

Camp this week by Leni

You will never know what the year six and five are doing? Well, I will tell you what we are doing. The year six and fives are going to their camp this Wednesday and then Thursday and then Friday. It is going to be so cool and so fun at camp.

I just cannot wait in until Wednesday it is because we are doing top  town with Miss Ouano and Miss Garden we are going to have fun doing top town it is going to be cool .
