Hello my name is Sateki this photo about me and the cupcake. We are learning about core samples. Everybody had are straw and a cupcake. We had to poke the straw in the cupcake and we pulled the straw out of it. We had to color what we though the inside would look like. Then Miss Ouano cut it in half and we had to see if we were right.

Holding a Friendly Conversation

Holding Friendly Conversations - 1080p from Team 4 Pes on Vimeo.
This morning in Room 14 we were working on our oral language. Miss Ouano was telling us all about holding a friendly conversation with someone.

We say 'holding' a friendly conversation because we when we talk to people we are trying to talk to them for a good amount of time without it being awkward.

Conversations usually start with questions and replies. A good conversation should have at least 6 lines or more.

Here are examples of our conversation below:

James:
This morning room 14 are leaning about holding a conversations. It means when someone is talking to you. Me and my partner where having a conversation. my partners name was Tylah and we were so happy when we finished. I hope you enjoy it and please leave a comment.

Antarctica: The Frozen Continent

This term our school wide inquiry is about Science. Our terms slogan is 'PSI - Pt England Investigates'. Team 4 are investigating all about Antarctica. Here is some of our cool learning this week. We hope you learn something new!

Dictogloss: Antarctica The Frozen Continent by Quinlan

In Antarctica the South Pole is found at the bottom of New Zealand. The ocean around Antarctica is called the Southern Ocean. It is the most driest and coldest continent on earth.

No people call Antarctica home only researchers. Some animals can survive in Antarctica like penguins, seals and snow petrels.

Making Reading Movies

Last term, we used our ipads to make movies to retell our stories in different ways. Look and listen to some of our examples below:

Dog Saves Girl From Sea by Sarai and Antonia

Dog Saves Girl From Sea from Team 4 Pes on Vimeo.

We have made a news story about based on the story Marama’s Dog. I first thing we did was write a script for our group. We shared a doc with each other worked on the one doc together. Once we finished that, we practiced it, then we filmed it on the ipad. When we were finished we editied it on imovie then uploaded it to vimeo.

When it was on Vimeo we hopped on our netbooks and embedded the video on a new blog post to share it to the world!

We hope you enjoyed our movie.

Making Movies in Maths Class

Maths in Room 14 is different this year. This year Room 14 and Room 13 cross group for maths. So that means that during maths time Room 14 and Room 13 are mixed into different maths classes!

One of the activities we do in Miss Ouano's maths class is make movies showing our understanding of our learning. When we finish our practice activities we get to work with a buddy to plan and film a movie showing how we solve different maths problems.

Here are few examples of our movies:

Creating E-Books in Room 14

Do you know what an e-book is? No its not an egg book, it is a 'electronic book'. This week Room Fourteen have been learning how to create an e-book using google presentation.

The week before Easter, Room Fourteen used Story Starters to find a prompt for their writing. Miss Ouano guided us through the structure, helped planned, and away we went writing.

After we had edited out writing, we marked with a buddy then with Miss Ouano. Then we used our writing to create an e-book using a template that Miss Ouano had prepared. We had to draw pictures for each page to show what was happening in each part.

Some of the prompts from Story Starters were hilarious! Check out some of our cool e-books below!

Making Movies on our Ipads

We are so lucky because Mr Burt has given us two new ipads! Now we are able to create and share our learning in a different way.

This week we were learning how to make movies of ourselves talking about our Omaru Creek maps. First we wrote a script for our movie, filmed it on the ipad, edited it using the imovie app, shared it to Vimeo, then finally embedded the movie on to our blogs!

Room 14 are so on to it that nearly the whole class filmed and edited their movies this week. Here are some examples below:

This is short film of my Omaru Creek Map. I hope you enjoy.

Embedding Photos from Flickr

This morning in Room 14, we were learning how to embed photos from Flickr. We learnt all about what a HTML code is, how to find it, and where to use it.

The photos we used, were taken at our local Omaru Creek during The River Talks show. The River Talks was held for our community to raise awareness of the bad state our river is in. People shared their experiences, opinions and thoughts about Omaru Creek.

Here are some examples of our amazing embedding skills:

Swimming by Toma

Room fourteen were thrilled when we were In the changing room. We put on our togs, but sometimes we would use some spare togs and some people sometimes bring some goggles. My class and I swam for two weeks In Glen Innes aquatic center to learn how swim to survive.

When we got the pools we had to put our school unIform on a big stage. Then we had to go and have a rinse in the shower. I am in group one with James, Izac, UlI, TIhI, Mista, Henry and MaurIce. Our Instructor was Toby and he is awesome!!!!!.

After that we went on to learn some swimming skIlls. First we always do crocodIle arms It Is very easy sometimes and fun. After that we dId motorbIke arms it is cool lIke when we are swimmIng to Island and back to the begInnIng It Is sometimes hard for me.

I really felt super marvelous with my swimming and I felt really sad that we have no more swimming. I really miss Toby the most, and I also want hair like Toby too.

Netbook Reflection 2012 by Rebekah

During year four I was using paper and pencil. “Boring Right!” But now I use my a really cool netbook. It is kind of like a laptop but more amazing and more fantastic than pencil and paper.

Pencil and paper was the only thing that I could only use when I was small and a little bigger. “That is it! I don't want to use paper and pencil ever again”, I said to myself. I was really sad that time when I was using paper and pencil but, now I could smile because I have a brand new netbook. Woo hoo!

When I first got my netbook I was thrilled but I was frustrated at the same time too
because I didn’t know how to use my netbook but a couple of teachers helped me and then I was so very happy!

About my netbook being a learning tool is great anyway and so very exciting because I get to learn how to write narratives and also recounts that I could share to people around the world. They could see it on my cool blog!

Next year I will not play games I will do my work and homework to because it is more important than a game.

Hope you like my netbook reflection.
