Netbook Reflection 2012 by Rebekah

During year four I was using paper and pencil. “Boring Right!” But now I use my a really cool netbook. It is kind of like a laptop but more amazing and more fantastic than pencil and paper.

Pencil and paper was the only thing that I could only use when I was small and a little bigger. “That is it! I don't want to use paper and pencil ever again”, I said to myself. I was really sad that time when I was using paper and pencil but, now I could smile because I have a brand new netbook. Woo hoo!

When I first got my netbook I was thrilled but I was frustrated at the same time too
because I didn’t know how to use my netbook but a couple of teachers helped me and then I was so very happy!

About my netbook being a learning tool is great anyway and so very exciting because I get to learn how to write narratives and also recounts that I could share to people around the world. They could see it on my cool blog!

Next year I will not play games I will do my work and homework to because it is more important than a game.

Hope you like my netbook reflection.

Retelling The Butter Trap by Chris

There was a girl who was told to get some butter. She went to the corner store, when she got the butter she was swinging it and it fell out. The butter land on the gutter.

When she got home she lied to her mum that there was a nasty boy who chased her down the road. Mum was so nice because she believed her.

Dad arrived home for lunch, they went to the nasty boy’s house to solve the problem.
But the nasty boy wasn’t there! He was at boarding school. And dad knew that she was lying.

Toy Making by Kevine

On Tuesday after morning tea, Room Fourteen kids had to make toys using, balloons, straws, bamboo sticks, paper, plastic bottles, string, sizes, cellotape, and lots of other things. We used lots of materials that some of us got from home. It was difficult to pick a toy because all of the toys looked so cool. I picked the square paper spinner.

Then we got started I tried and tried to make the square paper spinner but it was too hard. So I decided to make another toy that was easy, I looked and looked for an easy toy. Finally I found it, a coin centrifuge. The good thing about the coin centrifuge is that you only need a coin or a counter and a balloon.

I got started. I got a coin and a balloon it was kind of hard to put the coin into the balloon so I looked for a little plastic coin. I found one in the counter jar. I put it in and it fit. I started to blow my balloon I tied the top so the air doesn’t come out, I did it really tight. Finally it was done I shaked it then I stopped and the coin inside was spinning really fast.

Overall I enjoyed making toys. Next time I will look for a easy toy to make. I will try to work faster. The bad thing about my balloon is that is popped.

If you would like to make this toy click here.

Making Donuts by Rave

"Who would like to make some donuts?" my teacher said. "I do, I do", everyone said. On golden time today my class and I had a chance to make some donuts with our teacher.

The things we needed were cooking spray, pancake mix, a donut maker, sprinkles and icing. First we had to get the pancake mix and poor some water in it to make it a batter.

After that we poured the batter into the donut maker one by one and we closed the lid of the maker and they cook.

Then they came out looking fantastic and amazing. When they were all brown and looked cooked, it was time to decorate them. There were yellow and black sprinkles, rainbow sprinkles and yellow and orange sprinkles. I put all of them on to make it look like a rainbow.

In the end my one looked amazing and I had  lovely experience.

Play Dough Fractions by Nikki

Did you know that today room fourteen  had a session of fractions with play
dough? We had to make eel’s  with the play doh. The play doh felt nice.

It felt nice because It felt gooey, smooth, squishy, mushy and sticky. The play doh was orange like the sun setting. It was quite challenging to make it equal. We had to make halves, thirds, fourths and fifths.

I liked the smell of the play dough because it smelt like donuts and salt. “Yay”, I said when I got to hold it. It ran through my fingers which was nice. When I punched the play dough It was smooth and soft.

After that we had to put the play dough away in the ice cream container and I felt sad because I really liked making fractions with play dough!

Play Dough by Chris

This morning we made fractions out of Play Dough. Room fourteen made them into eels. We had to cut them into two halve parts and then we made it into three third parts. After that we cut them up four fourth parts, then into five fifths.

The Play Dough felt gooey the color of the Play Dough was neon like the sun. It smelt like salty donuts!

It was so fun playing with the play dough. I hope we get to use play dough next time we learn fractions.

The Olympic Flame and Torch

The traditional Olympic flame was burning during the Olympic games were happening. They will light the flame every 4 years for the Olympic games.

In the past the olympic flames represented greek hero's rebirth and death.

In 1963, the first torch relay stared in Berlin, Germany. The torch was lit in the stadium in olympia and got carried around different countries.

The torch is carried by many people that might carry it by walking, running, riding horses and many other transports.

The last person who runs back to the stadium gets to light the big torch. At end of the olympic games the torch gets put out at the end of the closing ceremony.

In another four years there will be a new torch designed for the Olympic Games.

Cross Country by Jonson

Last Friday, we had Cross Country. Mr Burt took the year five boys to the reserve, it was a bit muddy on the grass. We couldn`t go first because the girls had to go before us.

When we were running it was a bit sloshy and wet. There were puddles that my shoes got caught in when we were running on the path.

It got a bit freaky when I got to the creek. There was a lot of mud and a long river. I nearly fell down on the mud. The part that I didn't like was going down and going up the stairs in the creek. When we went out of that first lot of creeks, there was another lot.

When I got to school people were cheering for their house colours. I hung out with some of my friends, telling them what they came but they didn't know what they came.

I didn`t come first, I came seventh, but I really enjoyed that Cross Country!

London Olympic Opening Ceremony by Rebekah

Mike Mcroberts was reporting at the Kiwi House in london for the Olympic opening ceremony in last night. New Zealanders were cheering and were waving their flags at the Kiwi House.

Did you know that there were fireworks, dancing, singing, instruments, medals? The fireworks were so amazing and fantastic that it blew me away!

Mr. Bean was playing an instrument at the opening ceremony and he was so bored that he fell asleep and had a perfect dream.

It would be so cool going in a helicopter because I heard that James Bond and Queen Elizabeth went into a helicopter so they can see the olympic opening ceremony.

If I was in the audience or crowd I would be so thrilled and maybe fainting already and I will be cheering and screaming for my team NZ! When you were watching the olympic opening ceremony did you see the fiery olympic rings on prime?

BMX Cycling by Jonson

The Olympic event I have chosen is Bmx cycling. You have to cycle fast to come first. You also have to stay in front of the race so you can win the gold medal!

BMX cycling was started in the1960's in California.
BMX first appeared in the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. A man called Latvias Maris Strombergs won the first BMX olympics race.

You need a BMX bike if you are going to ride on the tracks, and you have to have protective clothing. It might be handy to have a helmet for your head!

If you want to win your bike has to be light so it can go quite fast. You need to know how to do bunny hops so you can have a better view when you get to a ramp. It is also important to be smart and know were the tracks are!

Olympic Rings Mosaic by Lesieli

Mosaics can be images you create with small pieces of coloured cardboard, glitter, or other materials. Some Mosaics are usually made by small pieces of glass or coloured stone. Today in Room 17 we made a Mosaic out of Cardboard, glitter, materials and paper.

The image we had to do were The Olympic Rings. The reason why we did this was because our Inquiry is about The London Olympics 2012.

After all our pieces were finished and we put it together and it became the Five Rings of the Olympic Games. There was one piece missing and that was part of the green as you can see.

Overall, I had a great time creating our mosaic! Doesn't it look fantastic?

Term Two Reflection by Faafetai

Multimedia/ICT:
This term I have learnt how to make an IMovie by myself.

I have been making a Pop Art face and and making some animations.

What I haven’t done so well in Multimedia is not putting my work on my IMovie.

Next term I will improve putting my work on my IMovie.

Maths:
This term I have learnt my strategies with my teacher and decades with tens.

I have been good at counting back in tens and adding tens.

What I haven't done so well in Maths is not adding ones but I add the tens.

What I will improve next term is to write in my Maths book properly and not rush.

Reading:
This term I have learnt how to read books and complete my work in time.

I have been going up to the next level of my reading age and doing well with my reading comprehension.

The thing that I have not done so well in reading this term is not finishing off my work don’t do the answers of my reading sheet.

Next term I will improve my reading by finishing off my work and making sure I listen to my teacher when we are working together.

Miss Ouano's Birthday by Rave

Not Long after free time our teacher said to me and my friend “Could you Please go and get the GIANT Cupcake out of my car? ". Me and my friend replied “Okay”, so then we went to the carpark. When we got there we found her car and we saw the GIANT Cupcake! It had blue icing with hearts and stars sprinkles.

When we got back to class we had a shared lunch. There were lots of chips and biscuits on the table, it was filled with goodies! In our class there are 30 children, so everybody had to bring some food. Some people bought biscuits and chips, I bought Jelly and Biscuits.

When me and my friend finished putting the goodies on the table we sat down and gave out the plates and napkins. After we finished handing out our teacher Miss Ouano cut the GIANT cupcake and asked us to come up to the table. She handed out some pieces to people. Meanwhile other people were lining up to get some food from the goodie table.

People lined up one by one and chose their food. After they went up to the table, more and more people went to go get their food. My class sat down on the mat and ate. We could go get more food if we wanted to and we could get more cake. After we ate there was a big mess so some people stayed and help my teacher clean up.

I hope next term we can have another shared lunch and bring more food. I hope it will be my teachers birthday again and we can have another GIANT Cupcake! It was yummy!

Youth Town by Korobeau

Did you know last week When I got to school I was so excited because Room 14 was going to Youth Town? When the second bell went I ran to class to go to the hall. At the hall we got into our groups and hopped on the bus.

When we got there all of us were happy to get in. Miss Ouano lead us to the room that we make clay ornaments in. The instructor was showing us how to make the ornaments then we started with the clay.

We were happy with our work that we made when were were all done. Then time was up, we all said bye because it was time to move on and get ready for the next thing. We got ready to swim.

I thought Youth Town was cool and exciting because we got to make clay and to swim in a heated pool. I hope next time we get to go there again!

Swimming by Lesieli

Filled with anticipation, we walked to the pools. I was really thrilled that we went cause I am kind of like a water freak. Like most people say 'First one in last one out'. I am always the first one in and I am always the last on out.

Starring longley at the pool I wanted to dive in. "Slip in now girls” the Instructor said. My Feet slipped into the pool like a dolphin’s tail. Lying on my back my feet were kicking, the water was warm and relaxing around my body. As we slipped into the pool I dived like a dolphin. Coming up from the water our eyes were stinging red. We blinked away the burn.

In my group we did big strokes and kicking underwater it was really exhausting. Then we had to do three laps of the pool without stopping. If we did stop they cant mark us off. We went one by one without no stopping and when we finished our legs were numb. It was really weird because it felt like we didn’t have any legs.

My final feelings on swimming is that I need to get better at doing 'frog legs'. When i get better it will be Superb! I still need to get better at things and learn new skills. By the end of the year I will be a good swimmer.

Andy Warhol's Style of Art by Nikki

Did you know a man called Andy warhol was a very good artist. He made a film about a man that was sleeping for six hours, that's why it was called 'SLEEP. Andy warhol did Pop Art and he did it in America where all the popular people lived. Andy painted Marilyn monroe who was an actress in movies. Andy also did pop art of the famous boxer Muhammed Ali.

The main reason why Andy Warhol is famous is because he was on of the first people to do POP ART. No one can do better pop art then him.Andy warhol’s POP ART is very famous and nearly everyone  knows how famous his art is. He takes photographs of celebrities and then he does pop art over it. If you do not know what POP ART is, pop art is when Andy Warhol does art of popular brands, popular people, and popular food and drinks.

Warhol’s art looks real and when he was doing his art he was using bold outlines and bright colours. In Andy Warhol’s art he inverted his colors. Andy Warhol used Silk Screening for some of his artwork. When Andy Warhol was doing his art he was doing it with concentration that's why his art looks real. His art is wonderful because when he did his pictures of Marilyn Monroe he made her eyes sparkle.

I like that Andy Warhol uses bold outlines and he uses detail. I think that Andy warhol would have loved creating art!

Andy Warhol's Pop Art by Jonson

There was an american artist, and his name was and Andy Warhol. He calls his art pop art.
He also painted and screen printed over photos of celebrities (famous people) like Marilyn Monroe and Mohammed Ali.

Andy Warhol  is so famous. His style of art is pop art. Pop art means popular art. Andy Warhol is so popular he draws things popular, like celebrities.

Did you know that Andy got shot three times by angry lady in 1968? He still survived. Warhol always draws simple strong shapes and then he screen prints it. He uses bright colours for his paintings. He made very popular paintings every time he painted. He uses a screen printer when he does his prints.

Overall, I think that was amazing what Andy Warhol has done in his life. He has done an excellent job. Andy Warhol is very popular, famous and so fantastic!
